Showa Denko Boosts High-purity Ammonia Production
Taiwanese plant to increase from 2,500 tons to 3,500 tons a year
Showa Denko has expanded high-purity ammonia production in its Taiwanese plant from 2,500 tons a year to 3,500 tons a year. The plant is one of three facilities producing high-purity ammonia (the other two are in Japan and China) raising capacity to a total of 7,000 tons a year.
High-purity ammonia is used to form nitride film in the production of compound semiconductors including LEDs and some other electronic devices such as LCDs.
According to the company, the amount of high-purity gases used in production of electronic materials and parts is expected to continue increasing due to the progress in miniaturization and multilayer structures of semiconductor integrated circuits and the development of LCDs toward higher definition.
In the company's new medium-term business plan "˜Project 2020+' which will start in January 2016, it has positioned electronic-material-processing high-purity gas business as a Growth-accelerating business.
