Oclaro unveils new laser diodes for 100Gbps transceivers

Completes qualification of 25Gbit/s DFB laser diodes for non-hermetic environments
Optical communications company Oclaro has announced the successful qualification of its non-hermetic 25Gbit/s 1.3µm distributed feedback (DFB) laser diodes for 100Gbit/s transceivers. The laser diodes use an InAlGaAs-MQW and Ridge waveguide structure.

Featuring low operating current at high temperatures, the Oclaro 25Gbit/s DFB is described as a key component for enabling datacenter operators to transition faster to highly meshed 100Gbps connections over single-mode fibre.

"The 25Gbps DFB laser diode is a critical component at the core of a new generation of 100Gbit/s transceivers optimised for data center switching applications such as QSFP28 CWDM4/CLR4," said Yves LeMaitre, president, optical connectivity business at Oclaro.

He added: "By making our lasers suitable for use in non-hermetic packages, we are enabling a faster adoption of proven telecom-grade laser technologies into datacenter environments."
