VI Systems demonstrates record VCSEL transmission
VI Systems has demonstrated a transmission data rate of 54 Gbit/s over 2.2km with its latest generation of 850nm VCSELs. The record transmission was achieved using multimode OM4 fibre. The standard graded index fibre is specified with 50/125µm.
According to the company, the new VCSEL design features a narrow optical spectrum at a high optical output power, which has been developed using computer simulation software which the company implemented to advance the performance of its laser products.
The transmission experiment is based on a conventional non-return-to-zero (NRZ) modulation format. This so called on-off keying (OOK) modulation scheme favors low latency performance in communication networks compared to more complex higher order modulation.
Details of the experiment are published in the latest issue of the Electronics Letters publication of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) with the title '54 Gbps OOK transmission using single mode VCSEL up to 2.2 km MMF'.
Secure Your Hydrogen Supply
A study supply of high-purity hydrogen is critical to semiconductor fabrication. Supply chain interruptions are challenging manufacturers, leading to production slowdowns and stoppages. On-site hydrogen generation offers a scalable alternative for new and existing fabs, freeing the operator from dependence on delivered gas.Plant managers understand the critical role that hydrogen plays in semiconductor fabrication. That important job includes crystal growth, carrier gas, wafer annealing, and in the emerging Extreme UV Lithography (EUV) that will enable new generations of devices. As the vast need for semiconductors grows across all sectors of world economies, so does the need for high-purity hydrogen.
