MindSHIFT datacentre uses Cree SmartCast LED technology
Cloud services company MindSHIFT has chosen Cree's SmartCast LED lighting integrated with a Cisco network for the build-out of its cloud mounting services facility in Long Island, NY.
SmartCast Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a scalable, open platform that enables the Internet of Things (IoT) for buildings.
"We were looking for a lighting system with IT integration that would help us meet aggressive energy savings goals while enabling us to take advantage of additional intelligence benefits, such as control, data collection and analytics, well into the future," said Tim March, mindSHIFT vice president, datacentre operations. "Cree's SmartCast PoE is the newest LED technology on the market that helps us package lighting into our overall operations system to be more productive."
Working with A+ Technology & Security Solutions as the systems integrator, Cree's SmartCast PoE LED lighting was integrated with a Cisco standards-based PoE-powered network to create a Digital Ceiling solution. Cisco's Digital Ceiling framework connects disparate systems into a single IP network to create smart, more secure, seamlessly connected building systems.
It was deployed across 40,000-square-feet of datacentre and office space.

The overhead lighting for the campus is delivered by Cree's CR Series LED troffers, including the CR22, CR24 and CR14 troffers. Using SmartCast PoE Technology, the troffers deliver efficiency with up to 4000 lumens of 90+ CRI light while achieving up to 130 lumens per watt.
SmartCast PoE and the SmartCast Manager are designed to solve the inherent commissioning complexities of deploying network-powered smart lighting within buildings. Cree's series of SmartCast lights, light switches and dimmers operates with a Cisco standards-based PoE-powered network. This platform provides power and networking for the lights with a standard Ethernet cable, eliminating the need for separate data and high-voltage power connections.
