China adds more US firms to export control List

News
Compound semiconductor players IntelliEPI, Raytheon and Lockheed Martin added to prohibition list

China has announced the enforcement of export control measures targeting 28 US companies before Trump takes office.

Amongst these is IntelliEPI a specialist in epitaxial wafer production of III-V compound semiconductors such as GaAs, InP and GaSb. The list also includes divisions of Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, two companies also involved in compound semiconductor technology.

These measures prohibit the export of dual-use items to the listed companies, and any ongoing export activities related to these companies must be halted immediately.

IntelliEPI covers everything from substrate manufacturing to epitaxial wafer manufacturing. Its products serve a wide range of applications, including commercial wireless-, satellite-, and fibre-optic comms, as well as space and defence uses like infrared sensing, night vision, and imaging.

Raytheon is known for its GaN technology and Lockheed Martin has activities in 3D heterogeneous integration and GaN technology, including technology partnerships with Ayar Labs and Global Foundries.

In recent years, the US has imposed sanctions on hundreds of Chinese companies, citing national security concerns. In December 2024, the Biden administration introduced a new wave of export restrictions targeting 140 Chinese semiconductor companies. On December 23, Biden also announced the launch of a Section 301 investigation into Chinese-made legacy semiconductors.

In response to US export control, China has restricted exports of rare earths and critical minerals crucial for advanced chips and weaponry. In December 2024, China’s Ministry of Commerce announced an immediate ban on exporting dual-use items like gallium, germanium, antimony, and superhard materials to the US.
