Photon Design to demo PIC tool at ECIO

News
Specialist in photonics simulation software will show latest functionality at European Conference on Integrated Optics in Cardiff

Photon Design, a specialist in photonic simulation CAD software, will be showing the new functionality of MT-FIMMPROP its integrated PIC component simulator and layout tool at the European Conference on Integrated Optics (ECIO), 10 – 12 June 2025, at Cardiff University.

Dominic Gallagher, CEO of Photon Design, will be demonstrating MT-FIMMPROP at the conference. According to Gallagher, the tool enables enables designers to stay within a single, layout tool environment whilst designing and accurately simulating multiple, photonic components and entire, photonic integrated circuits (PICs).

"Photon Design uses EigenMode Expansion (EME) optical propagation in MT-FIMMPROP; a thorough method of solving Maxwell’s equations which gives precise, simulation results, " he explained. "Passive waveguides can also be simulated on a scale unmatched elsewhere in the industry, by natively combining component scale simulations to build full devices and circuits. Process duplication is avoided, computational speed is boosted, and one-click, GDS-II export has been added for expedience.”

Gallagher joins other industry experts on the steering board of ECIO, which is organised by the European Optical Society. The board is chaired by Peter Smowton of the Institute for Compound Semiconductors, at Cardiff University and Thomas Krauss, of the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology at the University of York.
