Ascent Solar announces record CIGS efficiency

News
15.7 percent efficiency achieved at production scale for CIGS solar technology

Ascent Solar Technologies has announced that its thin-film CIGS technology has reached record efficiency at 15.7 percent (AM0) at production scale.

Using Titan, a one foot square module designed for space applications, Ascent says it can produce 15.7 W in power per unit. These modules weight just over 8g and are approximately 0.03mm thick, while offering a power density of 1960W/kg before encapsulation.

In the last 18 months, Ascent says it has consistently reached new milestones in efficiency testing starting from 11.6W in Q3 2023 to the current figure of 15.7W measured in Q2 2025.

Paul Warley, CEO of Ascent Solar Technologies" "The jump in device efficiency we’ve experienced over the past two years has dramatically enhanced our technology’s readiness for the Space market, positioning it as an ideal solar material choice for satellite power systems and other spacecraft."
