Enphase starts production of first GaN-based microinverter
Enphase Energy, one of the largest US solar technology companies, has started production shipments of a GaN-based commercial microinverter across the United States, with initial deliveries beginning in late December 2025.
Designed for three-phase 480Y/277 V grid configurations without external transformers, it is the company's first microinverter powered by GaN technology.
The device uses Infineon's CoolGaN bi-directional switch (BDS) technology in the power conversion stage, providing an efficiency of up to 97.5 percent. It can manage a continuous DC current of 16 A and deliver up to 427 VA of peak output power, supporting high-power solar panels up to 600W.
“Utilising Infineon’s CoolGaN bi-directional switch technology allows us to service a much larger segment of the commercial market with our IQ9 Series Microinverters,” said Ron Swenson, SVP operations at Enphase Energy, when Infineon announced the partnership in November 2025.
“The IQ9N-3P Commercial Microinverter brings Enphase’s panel-level architecture to the 480 V commercial market with a simpler, more efficient design powered by GaN,” said Aaron Gordon, senior vice president and general manager of the systems business unit at Enphase Energy. “By manufacturing this product in the United States, we’re helping commercial projects meet domestic content requirements while delivering the reliability, flexibility, and long-term value Enphase is known for.”
