UTD and Attolight launch WBG demo lab
The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and Attolight, a pioneer in quantitative cathodoluminescence (CL), have opened of a new demonstration laboratory at UTD offering advanced material characterisation services and collaborative research opportunities.
The demo lab supports UTD’s emphasis on semiconductor manufacturing and ecosystem development in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. It also complements Matthew Wong’s research group, which focuses on wide bandgap semiconductor materials, GaN-based optoelectronic and electronic devices, microLEDs, laser diodes, device fabrication, and advanced characterisation.
The UTD demo lab hosts Attolight’s flagship Allalin CL-SEM platform, which has been meticulously optimised for WBG materials such as GaN and SiC. The platform integrates a high-resolution scanning electron microscope with a proprietary, high-efficiency light collection and analysis system. This allows researchers to detect structural defects and analyse spectral properties at the nanoscale without damaging the samples.
In addition to serving as a product showcase, the lab is fully equipped to provide immediate R&D contract work for industry partners and academic institutions seeking to accelerate their development cycles and improve device yields.
