CyOptics, a supplier of optoelectronic components that include 40 Gbit/s electroabsorption modulators and 10 Gbit/s pulse generating lasers, has appointed former Lucent veteran John V Pilitsis as CEO. Pilitsis will be responsible for leading the company s strategic business focus and operations, while CyOptics Eran Yarkoni continues in his role as president. CyOptics is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts with fully integrated production facilities in Israel. Pilitsis worked at AT&T/Lucent Technologies for 18 years and served as president of Lucent Optoelectronics from 1993 to 1998. His latest position was as CEO of FiTel Technologies, the US subsidiary of Furukawa. Matheson Tri-Gas (San Jose, California) has announced that William J Krollwill head up its Compound Semiconductor Group, an internal initiative set up to develop manufacturing expertise for AsH3 and PH3. Operating from the company s Semi-Gas division, the group intends to increase hydride manufacturing four-fold over its current level. Matheson s new appointee has considerable semiconductor experience gained from postings at Bell Laboratories, BOC and seven years as a senior marketing manager at Matheson Tri-GaAs. His most recent position was with Emcore as executive vice-president of business development. J Douglas Sinclair has joined Nova Crystals in the role of vice-president of engineering. Sinclair has over 28 years of experience with Bell Laboratories, and for the past 15 years served as director of Lucent s Materials Reliability and Component Processing Research Department. His responsibilities will include overseeing device fabrication, process metrology, burn-in, and reliability and testing procedures. In addition, he will play a key role in transitioning the company s recently announced 10 Gbit/s 1310 nm surface emitting laser (see Compound Semiconductor April 2001, p19) to high-volume production at its expanded facility in San Jose, California.
