II-VI Suwtech pump lasers enable ultrafast fibre lasers

High output power achieved by combining multiple GaAs semiconductor laser chips into one module

The II-VI Suwtech division of II"VI has announced the introduction of 976 nm wavelength-stabilized multimode pump laser modules with up to 20 Watts of output power.

Medical, industrial and semiconductor manufacturing applications increasingly employ ultrafast pulsed lasers for precision drilling and marking on a microscopic scale. II-VI Suwtech's new pump lasers feature a wavelength-stabilized optical design that, the company says, can significantly extend their output power stability performance over operating temperature and output power dynamic ranges. These pump lasers enable ultrafast fibre lasers to operate with shorter pulses and achieve higher precision drilling and marking. The new wavelength-stabilized optical system also minimizes warm up time which improves the productivity of the fibre lasers.

"This new laser module builds on the proven reliability of II-VI's gallium arsenide technology platform," said Di Yang, General Manager, II-VI Suwtech. "Beyond ultrafast fibre-lasers for precision drilling and marking, our product portfolio will expand to advance pulsed lasers for other applications including supercontinuum lasers for life sciences."

The high output power of the new pump laser is achieved by combining multiple GaAs semiconductor laser chips into one module. The combined output power is coupled to an industry standard 105 μm multi mode fibre. The operating wavelength can be adjusted to meet specific customer applications.
