Company to develop GaN-on-SiC process for next generation mmWave MMIC applications

Macom has received a contract worth about $4M from the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop an advanced GaN-on-SiC process for next generation mmWave aerospace and defence and commercial MMIC applications..

Under the contract, Macom will carry out research and development on GaN-on-SiC semiconductor process technologies used in millimeter-wave Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) products.

In January 2021, Macom and AFRL signed an agreement to transfer AFRL’s production ready 0.14 micron GaN-on-SiC semiconductor process to the company's Massachusetts-based US. Trusted Foundry. The process transfer is complete, and the technology is now available for production.

The new contract funds Macom to develop performance improvements over current GaN-on-SiC technologies to support next generation millimeter-wave aerospace and defense and commercial MMIC applications.
