Video encoder semiconductors could experience market growth

Semiconductors used in video encoders could see demand as a new report suggests worldwide shipments for encoders will rise through to 2014.
Semiconductors used for video encoding could experience an increased demand, after a new report has stated that worldwide shipments for encoders will increase during 2010 by an estimated 19 per cent.

A new study by IMS Research has said that all broadcast encoders for the ingest, transcode, distribution and contribution markets will benefit from revenue increases and the trend will continue through to 2014.

Digital video encoders are integrated circuits containing semiconductor devices which encode digital video data into National Television System Committee and Phase Alternating Line analogue signals.

"A likely area of opportunity will be encoding for web video, with data from some interviewees putting annual growth in this relatively small segment between 60 per cent and 70 per cent," said Shane Walker, research manager and author of the study.

IMS Research recently reported that consumer demand has increased for quicker online music downloads, which could have an impact upon the popularity of semiconductors used in digital-input class D amplifiers.

Class D amplifiers can reduce power demands and improve sound quality because of their closed-loop feedback which delivers efficiency gains.ADNFCR-2855-ID-19448875-ADNFCR
Connecting the Compound Semiconductor Industry

The 13th CS International conference builds on the strengths of its predecessors, with around 40 leaders from industry and academia delivering presentations that fall within five key themes: Ultrafast Communication; Making Headway with the MicroLED; Taking the Power from Silicon, New Vectors for the VCSEL, and Ultra-wide Bandgap Devices.

Delegates attending these sessions will gain insight into device technology, find out about the current status and the roadmap for the compound semiconductor industry, and discover the latest advances in tools and processes that will drive up fab yields and throughputs.
