BinOptics unveils four 25G lasers

Cost effective lasers for 100G data centre applications

BinOptics, a provider of lasers for data centres, mobile backhaul access and silicon photonics, has announced the availability of 25G lasers at four wavelengths (1270, 1290, 1310 and 1330nm). The lasers allow 100G solutions for data centres using course wavelength division multiplexing (CDWM).

Trends such as cloud computing and streaming video have fueled a rapid increase in bandwidth demands from data centres. Compared to 10G and 40G, 100G solutions provide an increase in data transfer with lower power consumption per bit of transferred data.

Earlier this year, an Infonetics Research analyst said: "40G alone will easily pass $1 billion in revenue this year as it becomes the technology of choice in the Data Center." Infonetics analysts also expect the 100G market to gain critical mass in 2015.

"Our team has been focused on 100G needs of data centres for some time and, today, we are delighted to announce the availability of our 25G lasers at four wavelengths to address this market need," said Alex Behfar, CEO and co-founder of BinOptics Corporation. "Our 25G CWDM lasers can meet the demand for lower power consumption in data transfer, allowing increased bandwidth and density in data centres."

BinOptics' 25G Distributed Feedback (DFB) laser diodes are designed to operate from 0 to 70degC temperature with low power consumption. These products use BinOptics' proprietary Etched Facet Technology for reliability and performance.

The lasers are sampling now and are expected to be in full production by the end of the year.
