TriQuint Semiconductor Announces Expansion of Oregon Wafer Fabrication Facility
HILLSBORO, OR. TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq:TQNT) today announced that it has selected a contractor for the expansion of its wafer fabrication facility in Hillsboro, OR.
The expansion will involve an approximately 35% increase in the clean room area within the existing manufacturing complex and will cost approximately $6M. The additional clean room floor space will be used for expansion of production of 4" wafers and future conversion to 6" (150 mm) wafer manufacturing. The facility expansion is expected to be complete in the second quarter of 2000.
Commenting on the expansion, Steven Sharp, TriQuint s President and CEO stated that, "Demand continues to be very strong for our products, driven by the substantial increase in worldwide communications applications. Our two year old Hillsboro site was designed to allow timely expansion of our manufacturing capacity to support the rapid growth of our markets and customers. This project is part of our long-term growth strategy. When fully converted to 6" (150 mm) wafers, we expect our Oregon wafer fabrication facility to be capable of supporting revenues of approximately $450M per year."
