Russian nuclear center buys MOCVD reactor for blue LEDs

The Federal Nuclear Center (RFNC-VNIITF), located in Chelyabinskin, Russia, has acquired an Aixtron AIX 2400G3 HT MOCVD system, which will be used to manufacture GaN-based high-brightness blue LEDs. According to Aixtron, this is the first such system capable of volume production to be installed in Russia. The chosen system has a capacity of 11 x 2-inch or 5 x 3-inch wafers and is equipped with a fully-automated wafer loading/unloading system. "We are confident that this Aixtron system, with its proven outstanding performance and highest capability, will enable us to produce an industrial standard brightness with highest uniformity, best efficiencies and lowest operational costs," said Deputy Director Mikhail Zheleznov. "The winning feature combination of large capacity and excellent precursor efficiencies will ensure a valuable device yield and high up-time." Claus Ehrenbeck
