Nortel unveils 10 Gbit/s widely-tunable transmitter
Measuring 80 mm x 18 mm x 12.5 mm, the compact module reduces space and frees systems designers from the task of component integration, in addition to reducing inventory sparing and eliminating fiber splicing at the operations level, says Nortel.
"An example of our leadership in optical component integration and tunability, the LG10M provides a single solution that addresses modulation, laser and tunability requirements, saving time and improving flexibility for board-level design," said Patrick Walsh, VP of Optical Components. "The LG10M co-packaged device enhances our advanced product capabilities aimed at strengthening network intelligence and performance."
With modulator performance comparable to lithium niobate technology, the LG10M targets tunable transmitter applications for long-haul, multi-span and long-reach metro systems. The new source is designed to operate with 100 GHz spacing within the C and L bands on the ITU DWDM grid, and features an output power of 3 dB and power consumption of 8.5 W.
