JDS Uniphase introduces new products at OFC

JDSU will introduce a number of new products at OFC in Anaheim, CA this week, including source lasers, receivers and transponders. Source lasers include temperature tunable DMLs for 2.5 Gbit/s, 40 mW and 50 mW high power lasers, and temperature tunable CW lasers. A quarter C-band temperature tunable laser and an EML laser with integrated electronic driver will be available soon and are being previewed at OFC. For data communications in the enterprise market, a 10 Gbit/s Xenpak transponder is being previewed in the exhibit. New 2.5 Gbit/s transponders are being introduced for up to 180 km and in 2-channel temperature tunable and multi-rate DWDM models. Also being announced is a 10 Gbit/s receiver with integrated transimpedance limiting amplifier.

Digitally controlled Raman amplification pump laser

Also being announced is a digitally controlled Raman pump unit (RPU) for long haul and ultra long haul DWDM systems. The RPU includes a digital control interface to reduce design and integration time that is typically required of systems manufacturers. Raman technology will initially be used in 10- and 40-Gbit/s systems as an enhancement to EDFA-based chains to reduce the number of electrical regeneration and amplification points. The new digital RPU utilizes JDS Uniphase optical components, including 14XX nm laser diode sources. The RPU incorporates polarization and wavelength multiplexed laser diodes, an integrated pump/signal multiplexer and an optical output monitor. It has high power pump output of up to 550 mW, low insertion loss (0.8 dB typical), low degree of polarization dependent loss (0.1 dB maximum), ultra-low degree of polarization (
