Alpha and Conexant name new wireless company Skyworks Solutions
Upon completion of the merger at the end of June, Skyworks shares will trade on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol SWKS. The merger creates the largest stand-alone RFIC supplier for all of the major air-interface standards, with strength in switches, power amplifiers and highly-integrated power amplifier modules. Handset manufacturers can also expect to benefit from comprehensive 2.5G GSM/GPRS solutions, say the companies.
The combined company houses a range of process technologies including GaAs PHEMT, InGaP HBT and InP HBT, and an RF module assembly and test facility in Mexicali, Mexico. Skyworks says its aim is to be the industry’s leading wireless company focused on RF and complete semiconductor system solutions for mobile communications applications.
“The name Skyworks was chosen because it defines who we are and what we do,” said Alpha’s CEO David Aldrich, who will become CEO of Skyworks on completion of the merger. “‘Sky’ represents the vast and growing nature of wireless communications, and ‘works’ addresses our ability to solve problems and provide customers with integrated solutions.
