Emcore announces investment and supply agreement with Qusion

Emcore will invest in Qusion Technologies, a 3-year old company that recently began manufacture of InP-based electroabsorption modulators for 10 Gbit/s metro applications.
Qusion Technologies, a company that recently began manufacturing InP electroabsorption modulators, has signed an agreement to supply Emcore with wide optical bandwidth electroabsorption modulators. In addition, the companies have established a strategic supply agreement for Qusion’s Integrated Photonic technologies, which Emcore says will provide early access and influence on new product developments at Qusion. The news further cements the relationship between the companies, which last year saw Emcore president and CEO Reuben Richards join Qusion’s board of directors.

Emcore will also make an investment in Qusion as part of the company’s second round of financing, which includes leading venture firms and is still open to new investors. Last year Qusion opened a fabrication facility in North Brunswick, NJ to manufacture InP components, including its first product, a C-band electroabsorption modulator that modulates lasers up to 10 Gbit/s in metro optical networks.

“Emcore, a leader in laser and array technology, is a great complementary partner for Qusion, giving us insight, guidance and access to leading technology,” said Phil Wallace, president and CEO of Qusion Technologies.

“We expect that Qusion’s technology will enable us to extend the reach and data rate of our products,” said Emcore’s president and CEO, Reuben Richards. “Their innovations in material design, growth, integration and InP will allow us to deliver extraordinary value to our customers.”
