VertiLas wins first-round funding
German start-up VertiLas has secured funding to commercialize its long-wavelength VCSELs.
Long wavelength VCSEL start-up VertiLas of Germany has secured first round financing to commercialize its products. The value of the funding was not revealed.
VertiLas was spun off from the Walter Schottky Institute of the Technical University, Munich, at the end of last year. The company is focusing on (InGaAl)As/InP, 1310 and 1550 nm VCSELs as well as 2-3 nm tunable devices for the 1.6 - 2 µm wavelength range. These devices are based on a buried tunnel junction design.
"With our breakthrough technology we are targeting attractive markets in the fields of telecommunications, sensing and measurement," said VertiLas s chief technology officer Markus Ortsiefer.
VertiLas believes that its VCSELs are suitable for industrial-scale production and expect its 1.55 µm devices to be commercially available by the end of 2003.
