Emcore wins supplier and research awards

Emcore is voted a "top supplier" and receives recognition for its advanced fiber optic transponder.
Emcore has won one of Infineon Fiber Optics s "Top Supplier" awards for supplying its TurboDisc Tools in the manufacture of electronic and optoelectronic devices. Infineon Fiber Optics judges its supplier s performance in terms of quality, technology cost, logistics and management commitment.

"Emcore was selected among over 250 companies as one of our top suppliers for 2001," said Erwin Wolf, general manager at Infineon Fiber Optics. "The company has demonstrated a tremendous commitment to customer satisfaction."

Emcore has also won a joint "R&D 100 Award" with Sandia National Laboratories for the development of advanced fiber optic modules. Awarded by R&D magazine, the prize recognizes the partnership s work on the MTR8500 very short reach OC-192 parallel array transponder.

The MTR8500 provides very short reach interconnections over parallel fiber links at SONET OC-192 data rates. Based on a 1 by 12 array of 850 nm VCSELs, the transponder was designed to solve data bottlenecks at distances of less than 300 meters within central office or point-of-presence environments.

"We believe that the transponder will play a significant role in advancing information technology," said Emcore s CEO Reuben Richards. "By maintaining high data rates and reducing manufacturing costs, the team has made new fiber optic applications possible."
