Air Products expands with new ammonia plant
Air Products and Chemicals has invested in a new distillation plant to produce ultra-high-purity ammonia for compound semiconductor device manufacturing.
Air Products is constructing a new plant for the high-volume production of ultra-high purity White Ammonia. Situated in at its Hometown, PA, electronic specialty gases manufacturing complex, the new plant is expected to be in full operation by the fall. White Ammonia features a minimum purity of 99.99996% (6.6 nines) and is targeting a purity of 99.99999+% (7.0+ nines).
According to the company’s VP of Electronic Gases, Equipment and Services, Michael Hilton, the new ammonia facility will serve rising purity and volume requirements for flat panel displays, silicon IC manufacture and compound semiconductors, including LEDs, lasers, photodiodes and high power devices.
"Our new Hometown NH3 plant builds on our existing Solkatronic plants in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, and Catoosa, Oklahoma,” said Hilton. “In addition, it adds to our global supply locations in Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Belgium that produce and distribute our Megabit arsine and phosphine and Blue Ammonia in support of the compound semiconductor industry.”
