Opto Speed secures further funding

Despite the tough market environment, Opto Speed, a spin out from ETH Zurich, has secured further funding to develop its InP-based components for optical communications
Opto Speed, a developer and manufacturer of InP-based optoelectronic components for the communications, test & measurement, medical and defense markets, has announced that it has secured a further 10 million Euros of second round investment from ABN AMRO Capital. This adds to the previously announced 20 million Euros of second round financing led by The Carlyle Group in March 2002.

Opto Speed will use the funds to open a US office, increase its sales and marketing activity and for further research and development of 10 and 40 Gbit/s optical components. Opto Speed’s current product range includes InGaAs photodiodes, SOAs and 10 Gbit/s Fabry Perot and DFB laser modules.
