TriQuint updates forecast, Bede reports results

TriQuint forecasts increased revenue and losses in the first quarter of 2003 following the Agere acquisition, while Bede has reported encouraging results.
TriQuint has reaffirmed its forecast for the quarter ending December 31, 2002. The company expects to see revenue in the range of $71 million to $75 million, while earnings per share (EPS) should be somewhere between breakeven and a loss of one cents.

In the first quarter of 2003, TriQuint will begin to see the effects of the acquisition of Agere s optoelectronics business, which is due to be completed in early January 2003.

Without revenue from the Agere business, TriQuint stated that its revenue for the first quarter of 2003 would be seasonally down by approximately 10% compared to the fourth quarter of 2002. This reflects seasonal trends in the wireless handset market.

Including the Agere business, TriQuint s revenue is expected to be up by approximately 5% compared to the fourth quarter of 2002 and up by approximately 20% over first quarter of 2002.

However, TriQuint will incur losses due to the Agere acquisition; the company is projecting an EPS loss of approximately $0.08 for the first quarter of 2003. This excludes any charges for write-off of acquired in-process research and development.

Bede reports results

Bede plc, a supplier of specialist X-ray instruments and associated software, has reported revenues of £4.95 million ($7.68 million) for the nine months ended September 30, 2002. This represents a 9% increase over the year-ago period.

63% of total revenues came from Bede s successful entry into the high-volume silicon manufacturing market, while revenues from non-semiconductor markets grew to 22% of total sales.

The company recorded a loss before tax of £2.5 million for the period, and a loss per share of 8.5 pence.
