RF Micro Devices completes Resonext acquisition

RF Micro Devices has announced the completion of its acquisition of Resonext Communications, a privately held company providing complete, highly integrated CMOS wireless local area network (WLAN) solutions for 802.11a and multi-band (802.11a/b/g) platforms.

The acquisition of Resonext expands RFMD s total addressable market and is expected to complement the company s growing presence in 802.11b products. Resonext s product portfolio focuses on 802.11a and emerging multi-band WLAN technologies (802.11a/b/g).

"We re excited to join forces with Resonext,” said Jerry Neal, executive VP of marketing and strategic development. “We believe our combined strengths and unique technology will position RFMD to become the leading provider of WLAN chipsets. Our 802.11b revenues have grown rapidly, and we expect to achieve double-digit sequential growth in units and dollars in the December quarter. We believe our acquisition of Resonext will provide even more compelling growth opportunities in calendar 2003 and beyond."

TriQuint completes Agere optoelectronics acquisition

TriQuint Semiconductor’s acquisition of a substantial portion of the Agere Systems optoelectronics business that was first announced in October 2002 has now been completed. The $40 million cash transaction includes the products, technology and some facilities related to Agere s optoelectronics business, which includes active and passive components, amplifiers, transceivers, transponders and MEMS. The transaction does not include Agere s business providing optoelectronics components for CATV systems.

As part of the transaction, approximately 340 Agere employees will join TriQuint including approximately 215 in Pennsylvania and approximately 125 in Matamoros, Mexico.

Through a transitional manufacturing agreement, Agere will supply components for TriQuint for a short period following the transaction closing to ensure seamless service to customers. The majority of these components will be manufactured in Agere s Breinigsville, PA, facility which TriQuint will acquire following the transition period. TriQuint will also operate the back-end assembly and test operations at a leased facility in Matamoros, Mexico.
