News in brief: Modulators, Intense Photonics etc
Global consumption of optical modulators will increase at rate of 38 percent per year over the next five years, from $266 million in 2002 to over $1.3 billion in 2007, according to new report from ElectroniCast. with rapidly rising quantity growth offset by falling average prices.
In 2002, electro-optical (EO) modulators, typically utilizing lithium niobate, held 60 percent market share of global consumption. The market share of electroabsorption (EA) modulators will increase to over 45 percent by 2012.
Intense Photonics opens new cleanroom
Intense Photonics has further expanded its capability with the addition of 1000 square feet (95 square metres) of clean room at its Scottish semiconductor fabrication facility. The new area provides additional optoelectronic life test, assembly and packaging development.
Equipped with a full suite of assembly and test tools including GSI Lumonics latest galvo-laser welder systems, the new fabrication space completes the semiconductor production capability at the organization s High Blantyre site. This will enable Intense Photonics to fully qualify its products in house.
