Skyworks delivers on its promises

After reaching an operating profit in the September quarter, Skyworks grew its revenues, operating profit and gross margins in the December quarter.
Skyworks Solutions has reported revenues of $160.2 million for its first fiscal quarter ended December 27, 2002, a 26% rise over it revenue for the same period a year ago and 6% more than its previous quarter. After reporting its first operating profit of $0.5 million in the September 2002 quarter, Skyworks posted a $6.4 million operating profit this time round. After deductions, the balance sheet showed a net loss for the quarter of $1.93 million.

"I am extremely pleased to report that the Skyworks team continues to deliver on its promises and exceed expectations," said David Aldrich, Skyworks president and CEO. "Building on the success of our early achievement of operating profitability, the December period marks our sixth consecutive quarter of revenue growth with improving operating results.

The company also said that it had expanded its gross margin to 42%, excluding Mexicali assembly and test service revenues. Skyworks also shipped a record number of antenna switches as a result of proliferation at two top-tier handset customers coupled with traction within 802.11a/b wireless LAN applications and has supported Samsung s launch of three additional handsets targeting China, South East Asia and the Middle East.

The company expects sequential revenue growth in the seasonally weak current quarter, driven by the ramp-up of recent design wins and increasing market share.
