CyOptics acquires manufacturing facility
The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the purchase includes all capital equipment, inventory and intellectual property in the Allentown package development and manufacturing plant. In addition, CyOptics has hired the core manufacturing technical team of CENiX. The optoelectonic subsystem design and intellectual property associated with CENiX’ Irvine, CA operation were not included in the deal.
“We believe that in order to turbo-charge this industry, our customers require large scale device integration and 2x cost reductions from current prices in their overall supply chain. This consolidation of two best in breed players gives us the technology and low cost structure to meet our customers’ needs”, said John Pilitsis, president and CEO of CyOptics.
CyOptics was founded in 1999 to manufacture modulators for 40 Gbit/s transmitters. The company s products include 10 and 40 Gbit/s modulators and also hybrid electroabsorption modulated lasers (EMLs), which integrate its modulators with DFB lasers from JDS Uniphase.
In acquiring the new packaging factory, CyOptics gains the ability to provide a wide selection of components, including cooled and uncooled DFB lasers, EMLs, and pin and APD receivers. In addition, CyOptics can supply customized parts for high volume applications, including lasers and detectors for small form factor transponders and transceivers.
