Zia and Emcore in manufacturing agreement
Zia Laser has taken the option of leasing lab space from Emcore for the continued development of its quantum dot laser products, rather than expanding its own facilities in a time of uncertainty for optical component manufacturers.
Quantum Dot laser pioneer Zia Laser has entered into a sublease and contract manufacturing agreement for high-volume epitaxial growth and laser diode processing with Emcore. The agreement includes Zia subleasing cleanroom space and supporting infrastructure within Emcore’s Albuquerque facilities where its PhotoVoltaic and Fiber Optics divisions are based. Zia will operate its own MBE reactor will receive and technical support from Emcore in the areas of material characterization, wafer processing and device packaging.
“The agreement strengthens our ability to produce high-volume manufacturing grade QD epitaxy and laser devices to customers demanding performance not attainable with existing quantum well laser structures,” said Joe Dixon, COO of Zia Laser.
