News in brief: Endwave, Celeritek, RFMD
Endwave Corporation, a provider of RF subsystems for carrier-class, broadband wireless access and backhaul networks, has been selected by Siemens as a supplier of wireless transmitter/receiver (Tx/Rx) modules for the Siemens SRA L family of digital radios.
Under the agreement, Endwave will manufacture and supply Tx/Rx modules to Siemens for integration into production units of the SRA L radio to be deployed in certain markets within Europe in support of third generation (3G) mobile service deployments. The agreement builds on the historically strong business relationship between Siemens and Endwave s newly acquired Northeast Operation. Delivery of the transceiver units began in December 2002 and will continue into 2003.
Endwave s Tx/Rx modules for the SRA L radio support continuous phase modulation and enable data rates from 8-32 Mbit/s. The SRA L family of digital radios operate at 7, 8, 11, 13, 18, 23, 26 and 38 GHz, allowing mobile network operators and carriers to quickly extend their networks at relatively low costs and with a high quality of service.
Celeritek retains legal advisers
GaAs IC supplier Celeritek has hired two firms to help it explore ways of enhancing shareholder value and evaluate recent shareholder proposals. It has retained Lehman Brothers as its financial adviser, and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati as its outside legal counsel.
The move has come in response to increasing discontent from a number of shareholders over the Celeritek board’s handling of a recent takeover offer from Anaren Microwave and the general performance of the company. The Celeritek Shareholder Protective Committee was recently formed to lobby the board and is seeking to replace the current board, remove a financial instrument that hampers any possible takeover bids, and eliminate the practice of granting zero-percent loans to officers and employees.
