News in brief: Xanoptix, Tyco, Endwave, Unaxis
Xanoptix and Tyco Electronics have announced a multi-year, multi-million dollar manufacturing services agreement for Xanoptix’s XTM Series of optical transceiver products.
The non-exclusive agreement allows Tyco Electronics to manufacture parallel optics transceiver modules based on the design of Xanoptix’s XTM product line and utilizing 2D arrays of VCSELs and transceivers manufactured by Xanoptix.
The XTM Series is comprised of parallel optics transceiver modules that offer up to 72 channels terminated in a single MT style fiber optic connector with up to 245 Gbit/s of aggregate bandwidth. When compared to existing solutions, the XTM Series offers dramatically improved speed, power consumption, and density.
Kevin Rock of Tyco stated, "This is another example of Tyco Electronics commitment as the world’s largest components manufacturer and global technology leader in the fiber optic industry. We are very excited to begin manufacturing and believe this product family will enhance Tyco Electronics’ fiber optic portfolio."
"This agreement allows Xanoptix to focus on chip design and manufacturing as our core competence," said Jim Norrod, CEO of Xanoptix.
Endwave acquires synthesizer product and related assets from Verticom
Endwave, a provider of RF subsystems for carrier-class, broadband wireless access and backhaul networks, has acquired certain assets of Verticom, a privately held developer of radio subsystems used in wireless communications equipment for defense and commercial markets.
The acquisition was structured as an asset purchase, and included the product design for the MTS-2000 synthesizer, and the equipment and product-related intellectual property licenses required to manufacture production units. The MTS-2000 product is used in satellite video links in defense imaging systems and other VSAT applications.
Also included in the transaction was an outstanding purchase agreement from Zeta, an Integrated Defense Technologies (IDT) company, and a new Endwave customer. The company expects to begin shipping product to Zeta in the mid-2003 timeframe.
