Aixtron Taiwan receives funding for R&D center
Aixtron Taiwan has received funding for the three-year project from Taiwan’s Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT) within the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Other companies that also received funding for R&D centers included HP, Dell and Sony.
The DoIT stated that an important factor in selecting Aixtron Taiwan for the DoIT research center program is Aixtron’s strong commitment to collaborate with the Taiwanese industry, universities and research organizations in the development of advanced, next generation technology.
The common goals of the commercial production-related joint R&D projects include:
* Quality optimization and improved yield management of LED materials
* Increasing the throughput of high power electronic devices
* Developing the production of key materials for high-k-dielectrics
* Exploring the potential of nanotechnology
* Cost reduction and performance tuning of in-situ process control
* Accelerating time-to-market of technology and process simulation
* Developing organic vapor-phase deposition (OVPD) technology for advanced OLED display production
Aixtron has collaborated with Taiwanese electronic industry partners for more than 10 years and also established a subsidiary in the Hsin-Chu Science-based Industrial Park focusing on joint R&D projects.
Aixtron says that, together with its Taiwanese partners, it will enjoy many mutual benefits of this R&D center, including:
* intensive technology transfer to Taiwan
* co-organization of key research conferences and Aixtron Technology User Meetings with Taiwanese research partners and industry
* acceleration of manufacturing system integration for wireless communication devices into Taiwan
* support of the silicon industry in Taiwan by the introduction of technologies for next generation chips (sub-100 nm CMOS technology)
* scholarships for qualified students
Michael Heuken, head of Aixtron s Scientific Advisory Board and VP of Corporate R&D, said "Our long-term and focused commitment to the Taiwanese industry has been once more made clear by this latest R&D government co-operation agreement and the received funding.
"Our ultimate goal is to enable the compound semiconductor industry and many other high-tech industries in Taiwan to achieve highest productivity whilst establishing high quality, cost-efficient production processes for electronic and photonic devices which have huge market potential."
