Workshop introduces solid-state lighting program

On November 13-14, the US Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (Building Technologies Program) will host a two-day workshop in Washington, DC on solid-state lighting.
The workshop will introduce a new, government-industry, collaborative program aimed at saving energy by supporting the research and development of solid-state lighting.

The workshop has been organized to communicate the structure, purpose and timeline of the first few years of this multi-year program.

Using previously developed research plans for solid-state lighting, the workshop will focus on prioritization of relevant research topics, and setting early performance milestones.

Attendance is open to all companies, universities, trade associations, research institutions and national laboratories that meet the domestic performance qualifications promulgated in EPACT 92, which determines eligibility for funding under Department of Energy (DoE) programs.

One eligibility requirement for DoE funding is that the organization s participation would be in the economic interests of the US; that considerable contributions to employment in the US will result; and that technology development should lead to manufacturing within the US.

Also, the applicant should be either a US company or a US subsidiary of a company from a country that offers reciprocal arrangements to US companies in terms of access to energy R&D funding.
