Vitesse to sell optical module business to Avanex
As part of this transaction, Vitesse and Avanex have committed to working together on the development of new products for the optical transponder market. A supply agreement will see Avanex buying up to $2 million in products from Vitesse over the next three years.
"During the June quarter we decided to exit the optical module business with a view to concentrating our efforts on silicon solutions for the metro, enterprise and storage markets,” said Lou Tomasetta, president and CEO of Vitesse. “We look forward to expanding our relationship with Avanex, who we expect to be a significant player in the optical transponder market.
Avanex has been expanding its optical component business through a number of recent acquisitions. In May it bought troubled Alcatel Optronics and also parts of Corning’s business, including its optical components plant in Milan, Italy, and its Optical amplifier division in Erwin, NY.
