News in brief: OCP, Sirenza, WJ Communications

OCP has relocated its corporate headquarters, Sirenza has been awarded a patent on a thermally distributed feedback amplifier, and WJ Communications has achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification.
OCP relocates

Optical Communication Products (OCP), a manufacturer of fiber-optic subsystems and modules for metropolitan, local and storage area networks, has relocated its corporate headquarters to Woodland Hills, California.

"The move is a part of our strategic plan to contain costs," said Susie Nemeti, CFO. The company has owned the Woodland Hills facility since June 2001 and will occupy approximately two-thirds of its 145,720 square feet of space. The remaining one-third will continue to be leased to commercial tenants.

The Woodland Hills facility is located five miles south of OCP s former Chatsworth headquarters. OCP intends to lease or sell its Chatsworth facility. Furukawa Electric Co. Ltd., based in Tokyo, Japan, beneficially owns 58.1% of OCP s outstanding capital stock as of June 30, 2003.

Sirenza awarded patent on thermally distributed feedback amplifier

Sirenza Microdevices, a leading designer and supplier of high-performance RF components for communications equipment manufacturers, has been awarded US patent number 6,611,172 entitled "Thermally Distributed Darlington Amplifier."

This is one of several US patents awarded to Sirenza in the area of RF amplifier technology and discloses an approach for ensuring the reliable performance and manufacturability of Darlington RF amplifiers.

“This patent involves a method for thermally distributing heat to improve the reliability of a Darlington Feedback amplifier IC without compromising its electrical performance,” states Kevin Kobayashi, Director of Advanced Design. “This invention can improve thermal and electrical performance including gain and output power over frequency.”

Joe Johnson, CTO states, “Our infrastructure customers require high performance, reliability and robustness. Sirenza concentrates on developing and delivering products with all of the above attributes. This patent represents one of several solutions that have resulted from this company wide practice.”

Sirenza has also announced that Skip Hoover has been named Executive Director of the company s newly-formed aerospace and defense business unit.

WJ Communications achieves ISO 9001:2000 certification

WJ Communications, a designer and supplier of high-performance RF semiconductors and multi-chip modules, has gained accreditation to ISO 9001:2000 certification from Det Norkse Veritas (DNV), a leading international certification body. WJCI has been an ISO 9001 registered company since 1996.

"Our customers are provided with a high level of confidence knowing that WJ s quality systems meet the strict international ISO 9001:2000 certification standards," said Mike Gabitass, VP of manufacturing, supply chain and quality systems.

"We are confident the company will continue to leverage its strong quality management systems to continually improve its operation and products."

WJ has also entered into a strategic partnership with Alien Technology Corp, a leading provider of reliable, high-volume, low-cost, Electronic Product Code (EPC)-compliant RF Identification (RFID) products.

WJ is applying both its radio expertise and RF semiconductor integration intellectual property to address the need for low-cost RFID readers capable of working in real-world environments. RFID technology allows companies to locate, identify and monitor their inventory remotely.
