WIN teams up with Dutch research center
Taiwan-based GaAs RFIC/MMIC foundry WIN Semiconductors and the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) have signed a memorandum of understanding to co-operate on design services for third-party customers.
“Coupling WIN’s process technologies with TNO’s expertise in MMIC designs will create unprecedented opportunities for their customers in designing advanced products and systems,” said WIN general manager Simon Yu.
Surface Technology Systems axes 50 positions
UK-based Surface Technology Systems (STS) is to cut 25% of its workforce. The manufacturer of etching equipment said that ongoing adverse market conditions meant it had to reduce its overall headcount by 50 to around 150 employees. The company’s organisational structure will also change, said the company in a statement to the London Stock Exchange.
Albis appoints Peter Cairoli as CEO
Albis Optoelectronics, the Switzerland-based manufacturer of InP optical devices, has appointed Peter Cairoli as CEO. Albis acquired the photodiode business line formerly belonging to Opto Speed earlier this year and is now starting volume shipments to customers worldwide.
Cairoli previously headed a microtechnology institute and also ran his own design center for ASICs and custom-designed chips.
RFMD awarded ISO 14001:1996 certification
RF Micro Devices Beijing assembly plant has been awarded ISO 14001:1996 certification for environmental management systems. The Beijing facility serves as the final assembly stage for components manufactured at RFMD’s Greensboro, NC, campus.
