News in brief: Endwave, Alfalight and Motorola
Endwave and Signal Technology
Military and commercial RF subsystems provider Endwave, based in Sunnyvale, CA, is to collaborate with Signal Technology in a long-term marketing effort.
Signal Technology Corporation Microwave Systems (STCMS) is a division of Crane Aerospace and Electronics that is developing RF and microwave components and subsystems.
Under the terms of the agreement, Endwave and STCMS will look at business opportunities in the millimetre-wave defense market, including developments such as unmanned aerial vehicles, smart munitions, next-generation missiles and phased-array radar.
Alfalight appoints new CEO
Aluminum-free diode laser specialist Alfalight of Madison, WI, has appointed Mohandas Warrior as president and CEO.
Warrior replaces Mark Zager, who had been acting CEO at the company. Warrior spent 15 years in a variety of senior positions at Motorola Semiconductor, including management of silicon wafer fabrication.
“Warrior is an experienced veteran of the semiconductor manufacturing industry,” said Alfalight’s chairman, Charlie Hoke. “He adds a new level of operational and business excellence to the Alfalight team.
Motorola names semiconductor spin-out “Freescale”
Five months after announcing it was to spin off its semiconductor unit (see related story), Motorola has revealed that the name of the new company will be “Freescale Semiconductor”.
Freescale is scheduled to separate from its parent company later this year, leaving Motorola to concentrate on communications and integrated electronic systems.
Scott Anderson has been installed as president and CEO of the new company, which manufactures GaAs and SiGe devices, including power amplifiers, as well as silicon devices.
Anderson said that the company name reflected the Motorola team’s dedication to “agility, service and reliability”.
