Nitronex closes $6 million funding round
GaN on silicon specialist Nitronex, based in Raleigh, NC, has raised a further $6 million in venture capital.
The round brings the company’s total venture funding to $50 million. Nitronex says that it plans to use the money to accelerate product development and sales and marketing activities of its power transistors.
The company also announced its new acting CEO and executive chariman, Charles Shalvoy, who was previously at superconductor manufacturer Conductus.
Shalvoy said: “We believe our GaN on silicon technology can provide significant performance and cost advantages in a number of markets, and we expect to introduce our first power transistor products for the wireless market later this year.”
Apart from the expected uptake in the wireless communications industry for power amplifiers and base stations, the GaN on silicon technology developed by Nitronex also has applications in LED, military and automotive markets, says the company.
