Skyworks' PA module shipments grow by 40%
The company also reported an operating income of $13.1 million, up 18 percent sequentially and up 226 percent year-over-year, with earnings per share of $0.05.
However, the company’s GAAP operating loss was $4.4 million, due mainly to $17.5 million in charges primarily related to the write-down of legacy baseband technology licenses that were established prior to the merger between Alpha Industries and Conexant s wireless business, and the consolidation of software development design centers.
"Despite seasonality in the wireless handset market, Skyworks delivered record results [and] gained market share in key product areas, highlighted by the ramp of our portfolio of next generation power amplifiers, front-end modules, RF solutions and cellular systems," said David Aldrich, Skyworks president and CEO.
Among its highlights for the quarter, Skyworks said that it gained PA module market share, with unit shipments up by more than 40 percent on a year-over-year basis. Also, the company delivered more than four million highly integrated front-end modules, integrating switch and power amplifier (PA) functionality, and commenced shipments of GSM/GPRS PA modules at Samsung Electronics.
The company also shipped more than 30 million wireless LAN (WLAN) switches, and received initial high volume WLAN front-end module production orders in support of a tier-one supplier.
Based on record backlog and order trends across the business, Skyworks expects to grow its revenue another 5 percent sequentially in the June quarter and deliver earnings-per-share of $0.07.
