Denselight’s InP-based SLEDs light up networks
Denselight Semiconductors, which manufactures optoelectronic chips based on InP, says that its superluminescent LEDs (SLEDs) are now carrying live traffic in optical networks.
The Singapore-based company says that its SLEDs are the only such devices to be Telcordia-qualified for optical networking applications.
Denselight began volume shipments of SLEDs last year, and says it recently secured a volume purchase agreement from a “key customer” in the telecommunications industry.
Funded to the tune of $30 million by venture capital group 3i, Denselight also makes photonic integrated circuits for a range of applications. It uses quantum well intermixing technology to integrate a number of optical functions on a chip.
Its SLEDs are also used in defense, biomedical diagnostics, spectroscopy and sensing.
