WJ to acquire EiC infrastructure business
RF semiconductor and multi-chip module manufacturer WJ Communications is to acquire the wireless infrastructure business belonging to EiC Corporation.
EiC designs, develops and manufactures RFICs, primarily for wireless communications products, in particular power amplifiers (PAs) for cellular base stations, repeaters, wireless LAN, cable television and optical networks.
WJ will pay around $12.5 million in cash and stock for the EiC RFIC product line, intellectual property, existing raw materials and manufactured products, plus HBT semiconductor manufacturing processes to make high-reliability 5V, 12V and 28V devices.
EiC could receive a further $14 million over the next two years, depending on the revenue these InGaP HBT products generate.
WJ expects the acquired portfolio to contribute $8-10 million in revenues in the next 12 months.
“The highly experienced team of experts coming to WJ from EiC will be instrumental in helping us accomplish our goals as we grow our RFIC business in the coming years,” said Michael Farese, WJ’s CEO.
Founded in 1995, EiC currently has a 4-inch wafer fabrication facility, which also serves as the company’s headquarters.
