Arima and Tyntek increase LED production
Taiwan-based LED makers Arima Optoelectronics and Tyntek are set to increase AlGaInP LED manufacturing capacity.
According to a report from DigiTimes.com, the two companies are ramping up in a bid to compete with Epistar and United Epitaxy Company (UEC), two of the leading manufacturers in the country.
Arima is expected to increase capacity to 450 million chips per month by the end of the year, while Tyntek’s collaboration with Visual Photonics Epitaxy Company (VPEC) will see volumes double to 80-100 million chips per month.
Arima recently merged its operation with Kingmax Optoelectronics, which has already boosted monthly capacity from 200 million to 350 million chips.
According to the report, Tyntek says that its photodiodes and phototransistors recently passed tests for automotive applications set by BMW and Audi.
Current monthly volumes of these devices are about two million units and Tyntek is said to be expecting further verification from Ford, General Motors and Toyota.
