Riber opens nitride laboratory with CNRS

MBE system vendor Riber and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique set up a joint technology center to speed development of all types of nitride devices.

France-based MBE equipment supplier Riber has set up a process technology center that will focus on the development of nitride-based devices.

Set up in collaboration with French research body the Centre National de la Recherches Scientifique (CNRS), the laboratory is based in Valbonne, near the southern French city of Nice.

According to Riber, the center is dedicated to "the development and integration of new growth and characterization processes including (silicon-compatible) GaN-based HEMTs, HFETs, LEDs and laser diodes".

Riber is encouraging prospective users to visit the laboratory, which features a Compact 21 GaN MBE system that will grow specific test structures, to evaluate equipment or investigate device properties.

Riber had previously joined forces with CNRS to create a similar laboratory dedicated to phosphide work.
