Skyworks racks up a sky-high profit
Wireless semiconductor manufacturer Skyworks Solutions, based in Woburn, MA, enjoyed a record revenue of $207.4 million for its third fiscal 2004 quarter, which ended 2 July.
The figure represents a sequential quarterly increase of $23.9 million, while year-on-year sales were up 38% from $150.2 million.
Net profit for the third fiscal quarter came in at $13 million, compared with a $6.2 million net loss this time last year.
Explanation for the recent success was provided by David Aldrich, Skyworks president and CEO. "We gained market share across virtually all major product segments," he said.
"Our portfolio of highly integrated EDGE and 3G WCDMA / UMTS semiconductor solutions is positioning us to outpace the wireless market growth rate and deliver a strong second half of 2004 and beyond."
Skyworks identified gains in PA module market share, which saw unit volumes rise 75% year-on-year, and a design win at Japanese handset OEM Sanyo, as key elements of its recent success.
Looking to the future, Allan Kline, Skyworks chief financial officer said, "We intend to improve operating profitability by 15% sequentially."
