In brief: Crystal IS and ATMI
Crystal IS, a US-based producer of native AlN single crystal substrates, has completed a patent licensing agreement with Cree. The license covers a portfolio of Cree s patents involving crystalline AlN manufacturing technology.
"This licensing agreement will give us greater flexibility in expanding our AlN substrate manufacturing capability and represents an important milestone in securing our business strategy," said Crystal IS CEO, Leo Schowalter.
"We are hopeful that our customers and potential new customers will see this agreement with Cree as an important step in our company s growth - one which enhances our long term viability in the marketplace," added Keith Evans, senior VP of business development at Crystal IS.
Earlier this year Cree, a producer of SiC substrates that are used for the fabrication of blue and white LEDs, purchased ATMI s GaN substrate division for $10.25 million (see related story)
ATMI appoints Doug Neugold as CEOUS-based materials supplier ATMI has appointed Doug Neugold as president and CEO, effective from January 1, 2005.
Neugold, a former employee of Johnson-Matthey Corporation, joined ATMI in 1998. He previously held the role of general manager of ATMI s materials business, and in 2003 he was elected to the board of directors, and named as COO.
