In brief: Sirenza, RF Micro Devices, Skyworks
US-based RF component supplier Sirenza Microdevices will acquire ISG Broadband, a designer of RF and IC products for domestic broadband communication, for $7 million in cash.
According to Sirenza s CEO, Robert Van Buskirk, the deal, which should be completed by the end of December will enable penetration into the growing CATV-based, voice-over-internet-protocol (VoIP) market, and will establish the foundation for future participation in the expanding HDTV and set-top box markets.
Sirenza could have to pay ISG a further $7.15 million, depending on sales of items including ICs and satellite radio antennae products between now and 2007.
RFMD EDGEs past the million mark
RF Micro Devices claims it is the first company to ship one million EDGE cellular transceiver chipsets.
"In the few months since volume production began in the September quarter, we have shipped more than one million of our Polaris 2 [Total Radio] EDGE transceivers," said RFMD CEO Bob Bruggeworth.
"We expect total Polaris 2 shipments in the December quarter to exceed 1.5 million units, and we forecast March quarterly shipments of Polaris 2 to exceed our current December forecast."
The company s Polaris 2 Total Radio chipset consists of RFMD s Polaris transceiver and PowerStar PA module.
Skyworks receives volume order from Grupo VitelcomGrupo Vitelcom, a Spanish handset manufacturer that produces mobile phones for the Latin American market, has placed a volume order for Skyworks complete CDMA2000 RF subsystem.
"Skyworks is delighted to extend its existing relationship with Vitelcom beyond GPRS cellular system solutions to now include CDMA2000 radios," said Brian Daly, Skyworks marketing director of RF solutions.
