Opto Diode completes wafer fab
LED manufacturer Opto Diode has completed its new wafer fabrication facility in Newbury Park, CA.
The company says that its Class 1000 clean room and wafer line, which includes both 100 mm and 150 mm manufacturing, is now in full production.
Opto Diode makes high-power GaAlAs-based LEDs operating in the infrared and visible portions of the spectrum. It fabricates silicon photodetectors at the same location.
Celeritek shares out $38.9 million
Californian GaAs device manufacturer Celeritek made a revenue of just $2.8 million in its most recent quarter, following the sale of its defense subsystem business to Teledyne last October.
That sale netted the company $31.4 million, and as a result Celeritek handed out a cash dividend of $3 per share to every shareholder "“ totalling $38.9 million.
Celeritek, which now supplies GaAs components to Teledyne, employs only 67 people following the switch. It made a loss of nearly $23 million in the quarter ended 31 December 2004 and currently has only $13.2 million in cash and short-term investments on its balance sheet.
Cyberlux helps tsunami relief effort
US-based Cyberlux, which makes lighting systems incorporating GaN white LEDs, is shipping cases of safety lights to Thailand to help the tsunami clear-up operation.
Relief workers on the Thai mainland and on the island of Phuket, which was hit hard by the wave on 26 December, will receive the safety lights through the Shawnee Institute charity.
