In brief: Skyworks, Kopin and Emcore

Skyworks predicts double-digit revenue growth for its RF and linear products, Kopin posts record sales, and Emcore sees revenue grow in all business sectors.
Skyworks predicts a rise in RF product sales
US-based Skyworks Solutions has posted sales of $190.2 million for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2005, down $1.3 million sequentially, and $27.9 million lower year-on-year.

Profit for the recent quarter was $3.0 million, compared with $7.4 million for the previous quarter, and $14.6 million for the equivalent quarter of last year.

However, the company says that it is witnessing strong demand for its RF and linear products, although it is also experiencing declining orders for its cellular baseband offerings.

"For the first fiscal quarter of 2006, we anticipate revenue from our RF Solutions and Linear Products portfolio to be up from $164 million last quarter to between $180 and $183 million," remarked Allan Kline, Skywork's CFO.

Kline added that the company's gross margin will approach 40%, which will enable a 50% sequential improvement in operating income.

Kopin generates record revenue
"Kopin enjoyed an outstanding third quarter, delivering record performance on the top and bottom line," claimed company CEO John Fan of the HBT epiwafer supplier.

Sales and profit for Kopin s third fiscal quarter were $25.4 million and $5.4 million, respectively.

Rising orders for HBT circuits increased revenue from the company s III-V division by $0.9 million sequentially, and $1.8 million year-on-year, to $10.8 million.

Kopin expects overall sales in the fourth quarter to fall to $23-25 million, which it says reflects the end-of-year seasonality of its business.

Emcore sales grow on all fronts
US-based Emcore delivered sales of $37 million for the fourth fiscal quarter of 2005, a rise of 11% sequentially, and up 45% year-on-year.

Each of the company's operating segments "“ fiber optics, photovoltaics, and electronic materials and devices "“ posted revenue increases both sequentially and year over year.

Emcore will reveal more detailed figures for the recent quarter in its full earnings release on 16 November. The bottom line figure will include costs associated with closure of the company's City of Industry facility.

During the recent quarter Gelcore, Emcore's joint venture with General Electric Lighting, returned to profitability due to the relocation of manufacturing operations to Mexico being completed.
