In brief: Avanex, Kopin, Skyworks, Firecomms
US-based photonic chipmaker Avanex has posted sales of $36.1 million for the second fiscal quarter of 2006, which is within the range given in last month's forecast (see related story).
Loss for the recent quarter was $13.4 million, and gross margin was 7 percent, a 2 percent rise sequentially and up 13 percent year-on-year.
"Although we encountered operational issues during the transfer of manufacturing to lower-cost contract manufacturing, which resulted in a disappointing decrease in revenue, we continued to make progress toward improving our operating results," remarked Avanex CEO Jo Major.
The company expects sales of $36 million to $40 million for the third fiscal quarter, and an improvement to gross margin.
Kopin extends supply agreement with SkyworksKopin has extended its supply agreement for HBT production wafers with Skyworks Solutions.
The agreement provides support for various HBT wafer technologies, including GaAs HBT products, Skyworks' BiFET technology, and Kopin's GAIN-HBT platform.
Firecomms gains automotive certificationFirecomms media orientated systems transport (MOST) fiber optic transceiver (FOT), which uses a resonant cavity LED, has been certified by RMCtech for compliance with the MOST standard.
"Not only did Firecomms' FOT easily pass the rigorous certification tests, these devices delivered an additional 8dB of optical power over the specification," said Firecomm's project manager Brian McGarvey.
